Day Surgery (Arthroscopy & Arthrocentesis)
Most patients go home the same day.
You may experience
- Tiredness and lethargy from anaesthesia and anti-nausea medication.
- Nausea or dizziness, related to the joint's proximity to the inner ear.
- A temporary "funny" bite as swelling settles.
- Pain, swelling, and bruising.
- Blocked ear or reduced hearing, usually temporary, resolves on its own.
You may be prescribed or provided with
- Anti-nausea medication to help manage symptoms.
- Muscle relaxants to ease jaw tension, if required.
- Antimicrobial ointment (Chloramphenicol) for wound care.
Bite splint: a custom-made splint to be worn for six months after surgery.
