During his training Richard gained experience in neurosurgery, plastic surgery and ENT surgery before ranking No.1 in the UK for selection into advanced specialist training in surgery of the Mouth, Jaw & Face (Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery).

His medical and surgical training were completed in London, working across King's College Hospital, Guy's Hospital, St. George's Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.

Richard then travelled to Melbourne, Australia and completed a Fellowship in Orthognathic Surgery (Corrective Jaw Surgery) and TMJ (Jaw-Joint) Surgery before moving to New Zealand.

Alongside his private practice, Richard works as a Consultant Surgeon at Auckland City and Middlemore Hospitals. His public-hospital work covers TMJ surgery, facial trauma reconstruction, facial skin cancer reconstruction, and orthognathic surgery including surgical management of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).

Richard lives in Auckland with his wife and three young children.
