Patient Journey · Step 5
Recovery from TMJ surgery is highly individual, and your care plan will be tailored accordingly. Scheduled follow-up appointments monitor your healing and progress.
At three months, your surgeon reviews your progress and discusses arthroscopy findings.
Follow-up philosophy
Recovery from TMJ surgery is highly individual, and your care plan will be tailored accordingly. We provide personalised post-operative instructions along with scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and progress.
You will receive written information detailing recovery timelines, medication guidance, and warning signs to watch for. The team is here to support you throughout every stage of your recovery.
Follow-up cadence
The follow-up cadence is structured around three milestones drawn from the practice's standard post-operative pathway.
Typically, you will see your surgeon a few days after surgery to review wound healing, dressings, and any immediate post-operative concerns.
Physiotherapy begins soon after the immediate post-operative review. Specialist TMJ physiotherapy is part of recovery, sequenced once initial healing is established.
Your surgeon will usually review your progress again around three months post-operation. For patients who have undergone arthroscopy, this follow-up is also when your surgeon will discuss the procedure findings with you.
Recovery support
Contact the practice with any questions about your recovery or follow-up, or review the after-jaw-surgery page for immediate post-operative guidance.
